PREAMBLE
This book must sit on the desk of each office
administrator, facilities or records manager. This book
is written with change in mind. For most people, the only
time they think about their filing and information retrieval,
is at a time when either they have run out of room, or are
ready to move office. At this stage they have three basic
choices (a) Don't change a thing (b) Call in the first salesperson
and trust that they are right, and do know as much as they
say or, (c) Call in a consultant
who is unbiased and knows the industry.
In the recent past too many vendors have
set up consulting companies and too many consultants have
ended up being vendors.
FILING is about
debunking a few myths and getting right to the point.
FILING replaces a previous publication
The Records Management Primer first published in 1982 as
part of a training program developed for the Records Management
