Thumbs Ratings

This sharp instrument would be banned from a children’s playground on the basis of its potential for damage. The prong is generally inserted through a hole either punched or drilled on the top left hand corner of the document and fastened between a backing board and a front cover sheet. Each time you wish to place a new paper on the file, you must straighten the fastener, remove the cover sheet (at least) then place the paper on the file, and re-insert the cover sheet (at least).

Good News for those who insist on using this, there is now a replacement in Polypropylene which does not do the same damage to your body.  This is called a Polypost (Arnos Fasteners Australia).  Although this is designed for computer printout, it will do the same job.

Comment

Celco Clip and others.

They come in a variety of lengths, and quality.  If they are not attached to the file correctly the back will scratch and damage your furniture.  The prongs are sharp and could be banned on the grounds of occupational health and safety.

Advantages

Easier to operate than two prongs.

Does not need punching to attach a single page.

Easy to add papers on top of stack.

Disadvantages

Catches on other files if not taped at back.

Scratches desks and is sharp (if not placed internally).

Initial choice of size may be too small for file.

Difficult to photocopy - less difficult than above.

Can cause physical injury.

When to use
