This sharp instrument would be banned from a children’s playground on the basis of its potential for damage. The prong is generally inserted through a hole either punched or drilled on the top left hand corner of the document and fastened between a backing board and a front cover sheet. Each time you wish to place a new paper on the file, you must straighten the fastener, remove the cover sheet (at least) then place the paper on the file, and re-insert the cover sheet (at least). Good News for those who insist on using this, there is now a replacement in Polypropylene which does not do the same damage to your body. This is called a Polypost (Arnos Fasteners Australia). Although this is designed for computer printout, it will do the same job.
